A man who ate nothing but mince pies from December 1st to the 25th says he has lost weight – and vowed never to eat one again. Padraig Howard, 27, loves the festive treats so much he took on the mammoth challenge for charity. He replaced every meal with mince pies in a 25 day festive challenge from December 1 until Christmas Day. The behavioural support worker has scoffed 250 mince pies – 72,250 calories – yet lost a staggering 6kg (13lb) and now weighs 68kg. He ate around 10 a day and ate them whenever he got peckish rather than at assigned meal times. Woman shocked by sister-in-law’s ‘rude’ gesture ahead of family Christmas dinner Pod, from Belsize Park, London said: “You don’t realise the importance of how your eating habits influence your health until you do something stupid. “I don’t think I will be having anymore mince pies.” Inspired by the documentary ‘Super Size Me’, which sees a man eat McDonald’s three times a day, Pod ditched all other food for the 25 day period. Pod said: “I’ve always loved mince pies and last year I ate a lot of them over last Christmas. “So much so my friends even pointed out how many I’d been eating and we started joking about the idea of doing some sort of food challenge for charity. “Like the guy from Super Size Me, who eat nothing but McDonald’s, except I’d eat nothing but mince pies over December.” He purchased the festive treats from supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons, as well as Pret a Manger – who gave him some freebies – and independent bakeries. Aldi is doing something amazing with leftover stock this Christmas – and every supermarket should follow suit Pod said: “To begin with I tried consuming my normal calories in mince pie form but I really struggled with my sugar levels, so now I just snack as and when I’m hungry. “I went and got a big stockpile of mince pies from all your typical high street shops, Tesco, Morrison’s, Sainsbury’s, I’ve also been eating them from bakery’s and cafes. “Morrison’s apple turnover mince pies were probably the best of high street names but the best mince pies I had were from a bakery called Konditor and Cook in London.” Pod has since raised more than £4,000 for Crisis, a charity which helps homeless people in London. Pod said: “The reception I have had from the challenge has been incredible and overwhelming. “I chose this charity because homelessness is on the rise and it felt particularly important around this time of year with the weather getting colder. If you’ve got this dessert on your Christmas dinner table it could be dangerous “It must be incredibly difficult living on streets, with people getting festive and jolly all around you for Christmas. “If I give a someone homeless some food, it might be a sweet treat like a mince pie, even if it’s not something they won’t eat, they may have no choice. “I thought it would be an interesting challenge for me mentally and physically, not to suggest I have it as

Suspected cannibal Natalia Baksheeva and husband Dmitry Baksheev, 35, are detained as police investigate her confession that the couple killed and ate 30 or more victims. Dismembered human remains were found in their fridge, freezer and elsewhere in their home at a hostel in a military academy in Krasnodar, southern Russia.
One victim was waitress Elena Vashrushev, 35, who lived near Natalia and her husband. It’s believed the couple trawled dating websites to find their other victims. Neighbours say Natalia, a former nurse, made and sold pies to boost her income.
